Rhiwbina Library Construction Works Update
We now have a date for the start of works to refurbish the existing Rhiwbina Library building to create a Community Hub with a focus on wellbeing. To enable the Hub team to clear the building in readiness for the works to start, the library will not re-open after it has closed at 5.30pm on Saturday 23rd April. The contractors will take over the site on Tuesday 3rd May. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by early November of this year, subject to there being no unforeseen delays to their works programme.
Health and Safety legislation requires contractors to have adequate and appropriate welfare facilities on site for their employees. Due to the constrained nature of the site, these will be located in front of the building, necessitating the closure of a short stretch of footpath for the duration of the project.
We will keep you updated as the scheme progresses.
The following groups have been re-located at Canolfan Beulah Community Rooms and Bethany Baptist Church Hall both within the local area and close to Rhiwbina Library.

Click and collect library service
Library users can order a selection of books to collect from their local hub. Collection of books is by pre-arranged appointment only. No appointment is needed for returns. A delivery option for Cardiff residents is also available for those who need it.
How it works
You can pre-order titles either via Cardiff Libraries online catalogue or by calling a library phone line where you will be offered a selection of five books based on your interests and preferred genres. The library phone line is 029 2087 1071. Please select option 2. Staff on the library line will arrange an allocated time slot when you can collect the books from one of the available hubs. For information about locations of these services and opening hours, please visit the council's Hubs and Libraries page.
Reserving books
You can reserve books online using the council's library catalogue. You can also choose a Click and Collect ‘Selection Bag’. This is an assortment of up to 5 books selected for you by staff based on your stated interests and preferred genres. You will need to complete a short form stating your preferred hub for collection. To log in and reserve books you will need your library card number and PIN. If you have any technical difficulties or need help finding your library card number and PIN please contact the council or call our Advice Line on 029 2087 1071. Cardiff residents can also become new members of the library service or reset their PIN.
Collecting books
Once your reservation is processed, staff will call you to arrange an appointment for collection. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact information on file whenever you speak with a member of staff, or by updating your information in the My Account section of the library catalogue. If you are unable to visit hubs, we can deliver books to homes in Cardiff. Staff will call or email you to advise on delivery slots available.
Returning books
Loans will be for the usual three week period. You can return books to any of the hubs or libraries that are currently open. Please visit our Hubs and Libraries page for more information about opening times. If you borrow books through Click and Collect and your circumstances change, meaning that you may not be able to return them, please contact us.
Books are being renewed automatically and overdue fines will not be applied. Customers who borrowed books before the lockdown period, with due dates during that time, do not need to worry about fines as books have been automatically renewed. Where possible, please help us fulfil requests and circulate books by returning your books to your nearest hub or library at your earliest convenience.
